TP Bennett Takes the Office Out of the 80s

TP Bennett has completed the refurbishment of a 1980s postmodern office in the heart of London, and the results provide an insight into how such buildings can be tackled. We look at how the project has transformed the space

Completed at the start of the year, TP Bennett’s transformation of 8 Salisbury Square in London has seen the tired 80s interior revitalised, adding an additional 40,000 sq ft to the 110,000 sq ft of space in the process.

Featuring a raised floor system and smart ceilings, the refurbishment has produced flexible work spaces more in keeping with the demands of modern offices, while improving the sustainability credentials with flexible air conditioning and lighting systems.

The design also includes a new top floor, including six private roof terraces. The project also saw the installation of 153 cycle spaces, as well as the creation of a new combined café and library.

On the ground floor, the existing large atrium has been converted into a double-height entrance hall, complete with seating areas, feature lighting and a bronze reception desk.

“Working with 1980s buildings is a great opportunity, they provide a strong base for the modern commercial office space, with generous floor plates, ceiling heights and window sizes,” said James Elliott, director at TP Bennett.

“The attention to detail on this project was a key factor, we really thought about the demographic of the potential occupier, curating the fixtures and fittings to appeal to both the dynamic midtown media workforce as well as the more traditional corporate and legal industry based in this location,” added Elliott.
