David Shalev: 1934 – 2018

Celebrated cultural architect and former Architectural Association tutor David Shalev has died. He is best known for designing the Tate St Ives, a Cornish outpost of the British gallery commissioned in 1989. Other notable works include Bede Museum in Jarrow and Truro Crown Courts, which won the 1988 RIBA Building of the Year.

90 year-old Indian architect Balkrishna Doshi has been announced as the winner of the 2018 Pritzker prize, architect’s highest accolade. A low-cost housing pioneer who has previously worked with Le Corbusier, Doshi has played a vital role in the architectural development of post-independence India.

2017 Stirling Prize Winner Put on Sale

Hastings Pier, the winner of the 2017 RIBA Stirling Prize for Architecture, has been unexpectedly put on sale after the charity set up to oversee its operation went into administration at the end of 2017. At present there is no word on a buyer, with administrators saying they are considering all offers.

Mark Lee Appointed as Harvard GSD Architecture Chair

Mark Lee, principal and founding partner at Johnston Marklee Architects, has been appointed chair of Harvard Graduate School of Design’s Department of Architecture. Lee has been teaching at Harvard GSD since 2013, and succeeds K. Michael Hays who has taught at the university since 1998.
